The Science & Spirit of the Sun
Solar Connection
Surya represents the source of light, energy, and life on earth. Practicing Surya Namaskar activates the solar plexus (Manipura Chakra), located behind the navel, which regulates body warmth, digestion, and personal vitality.
Pingala Nadi Activation
In yogic anatomy, Pingala Nadi represents the solar energy channel (associated with dynamic actions, vitality, and right-nostril breathing). This sequence balances the active solar and receptive lunar energies within the body.
Endocrine & Vital Organs
The alternate forward and backward bends create a compression and stretch reflex throughout the glandular system, stimulating the thyroid, pancreas, adrenal glands, and enhancing blood circulation to all vital thoracic organs.
Guidelines for Practice
Ideal Timing
Practice at sunrise or early morning on an empty stomach. Facing East during sunrise aligns your physical system with solar energy wavelengths.
Breath Awareness
The breath coordinates the movement. Never hold your breath unless instructed (e.g. Plank). If breath becomes short or heavy, rest in child's pose (Balasana).
Gradual Progression
Start with 2 to 4 rounds of Hatha Surya Namaskar. Slowly build up capacity. Focus on structural alignment and joint safety over speed or deep backbends.
